Robyn O’Brien | The New Food Economy 0

“In the absence of the truth, all of us stand helpless to defend ourselves, our families and our health,
which is the greatest gift we have.   Robyn O’Brien’s courageous pursuit is an example of
how we can all do our parts to protect the health of our families.”
—Erin Brockovich

A former financial and food industry analyst Robyn O’Brien triggered an allergic reaction in the food industry when she asked: “Are we allergic to food or what’s been done to it?”

She has helped to lead a food awakening among consumers, corporations and politicians.  Food companies responding to Robyn’s work include Kraft, Coca Cola, Burger King, Chipotle, Nestle, Target and others.  She sheds light on how the changing landscape of food and health are impacting the food industry and our economy.

Robyn graduated as the top woman in her class from business school before working as an equity analyst on a global portfolio team. She is regarded as an expert on children’s health policy, called “food’s Erin Brockovich” by Bloomberg and The New York Times and has been named by SHAPE Magazine as a “Women To Shape the World”, by Forbes Woman as one of “20 Inspiring Women to Follow on Twitter,” and by The Discovery Channel as one of its 15 Top Visionaries.

Robyn’s work has also been recognized by individuals such as Dr. Oz, Robert Kennedy Jr., Ted Turner and Prince Charles. She is the founder of the visionary organization AllergyKids which is focused on restoring the integrity of the food supply and the health of children. Her work is seen in Food, Inc. filmmaker Robert Kenner’s 2012 video, Labels Matter, and with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Do you know that we have financed and subsidized a system that is making us sick through the food we eat? Autoimmune diseases and other conditions are on the rise and the source and quality of our food can be to blame.

Dr. Lipman’s expertise in the microbiome and his work in restoring people’s health through the gut proves that what you choose to put in your body is as important as what you choose to leave out. He highlights the concerns within our food system, including antibiotic overuse in the animals we eat, glyphosate exposure in the crops we eat, and overly processed foods that are loaded with artificial ingredients and sugar.

Ken Cook, founder of Environmental Working Group (EWG), and Robyn O’Brien, founder of AllergyKids Foundation, have both studied much of the science and the financing of our food industry. Cook and his team have built databases that not only capture the financials and how money is influencing policy, but they’ve also built databases to help consumers navigate the grocery store and beauty counter. EWG is well-known for its annually updated “Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce” that includes the “Dirty Dozen” and “Clean Fifteen” lists.
