Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique that has been around in various forms for thousands of years.
In this video you will see Harvard-trained Dr Andrew Weil showing:
• how it involves regulating your breathing to various counts of 4, 7 and 8
• It lets oxygen better fill the lungs, calms the mind and relaxes muscles
• and more
Dr. Andrew Weil, who studies meditation, breathing, and how it can be used to counteract stress show how easy it is to do. You breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold it for seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth for eight seconds. It slows down your heart rate and it also releases chemicals in our brains that soothe you.
This is good for falling asleep and reducing stress throughout the body and throughout your day. Our endocrine system releases adrenaline through our adrenal glands during stress. This elevates your heart rate and can make you feel jittery and unwell. Often times, your breathing also becomes rapid and shallow.
By using this breathing method, you counteract the natural effects of adrenaline and your body is forced to slow down your heart rate.
As you continue with it, you really do feel your heart rate slow and your mind clear. Very relaxing. If you want to make it even more powerful ask me about the RBQT technique… it uses the breath and adds a simple process that links up your limbic system at the same time.
Peace,
Bruce
